“James Holzhauer, a 34-year-old professional sports gambler from Las Vegas, Nev., just annihilated the Jeopardy! single-day cash winnings record. Holzhauer won $110,914 on Tuesday. The previous single-game record of $77,000 was set by Roger Craig on September 19, 2010. In addition to being a huge chunk of change, Holzhauer’s $110,914 take has a special numerical significance: His daughter was born November 9, 2014 (11/09/14).”

Leaders of the Writers Guild and Hollywood agents have concluded their third meeting in four days with discussion of the key issues of packaging fees and ownership of production companies. Tuesday afternoon’s session at the WGA West headquarters in Los Angeles lasted several hours, with small groups representing both sides. The negotiators are facing an April 12 deadline to hammer out a deal before the WGA imposes a new Agency Code of Conduct — which will eliminate packaging fees and ownership of production companies by WME, CAA and UTA. Sources said that a meeting has not been set yet for Wednesday but such a get-together is likely. The sides had been facing an April 6 contract expiration deadline, but an eleventh-hour gathering on that day led to the WGA agreeing to a six-day delay in the implementation of the code. The sides are trying to avoid the disruption of having thousands of WGA members fire their agents en masse.” Dare to dream.

Travel Channel's focus on spooky destinations and unexplained phenomena will continue with a series hosted by horror icon Robert Englund. The series will be announced Wednesday as part of Travel Channel's slate at the Discovery Networks upfronts. In each episode, Englund will track down the story behind a bizarre or mysterious account printed in an American newspaper in the past. He will enlist historians and scholars to get to the truth behind the reports.”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Discovery Channel has greenlit a new adventure series starring Rob Riggle.

“In the tentatively titled Rob Riggle: Global Investigator, the actor, comedian and retired Marine will employ his passion for adventure as he travels around the world in hopes of solving some of the world’s greatest mysteries.

“Riggle, inspired by his grandfather, developed a love of exploring as a young boy, when he became captivated by myths and legends from far-off places he could only imagine. In his new series, Riggle will ‘embark on heart-pounding journeys, seeing everything the world has to offer one mystery at a time.’

“Each week, Riggle will use his self-proclaimed ‘extensive knowledge of everything’ to explore a mystifying legend that takes him on an epic adventure around the world. He'll meet local guides to help him along the way and invite people who don't think he's up to the challenge to accompany him, eventually proving them wrong. Relying on his mental toughness and self-taught high-performance karate, Riggle will take on some of the biggest challenges and most daring adventures he’s ever faced.

Rob Riggle: Global Investigator is produced for Discovery Channel by Will Packer Media, Anomaly Entertainment, Haunted Steel Mill in association with Hazmat Productions. The premiere date will be announced at a later date.

"‘Rob Riggle’s thirst for adventure is only matched by his extreme confidence in his own abilities. We're thrilled to be working with him and can’t wait to show our viewers Rob's unique take on some of the world's biggest mysteries,’ said Nancy Daniels, chief brand officer at Discovery & Factual.

“Riggle already has a relationship with Discovery. Last summer, he trained with Shaquille O'Neal for a shark dive featured in the July special Shaq Does Shark Week.

"‘I couldn’t be happier to be working with Discovery on another project. After taming sharks with Shaq in the Bahamas for Shark Week, I can’t wait to travel the world exploring some of our greatest mysteries,’ Riggle said.

"‘Global Investigator is feeding into an untapped intersection of comedy and adventure,’ said record-breaking producer Will Packer, executive producer and CEO of Will Packer Media. ‘I can't think of anything more fun than hanging with Rob Riggle and traveling around the world.’

“Matthew Kelly and Michael Sorensen serve as executive producers for Anomaly, Packer and Kelly Smith for Will Packer Media and Paul Matusheski and Benjamin Haslup for Hazmat. For Discovery, Joseph Schneier is executive producer. Riggle and Chris Pizzi also serve as executive producers.”

Hey Riggle, stay in your lane. Hey Zaslav stop being SUCH a star fu&*er.

Per TheWrap, “Bear Grylls didn’t survive this long by being dumb. The survivalist is well aware that you’re all just going to try and kill him on his new Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style Netflix series You vs. Wild.

“‘This is what I was worried would happen!’ he told us ahead of the premiere. ‘I am not sure I like the feeling!’

TheWrap interviewed Grylls via email because, well, the dude isn’t often in an area with good cell-phone reception. We kept the conversation pretty brief, as the assumption is Grylls is pretty much always facing imminent danger.

“Our chat is below — the exclamation points are all genuine Grylls excitement:

What’s the weirdest/coolest option you filmed for You vs. Wild?
Probably the option of what to do with some old explosives down an old mine, [or] a rattlesnake and bleeding from a wound! I won’t spoil the options or ending for you…

Were any of the choices something you hadn’t done before?
So many of them took me to a survival disaster situation that was entirely new and that’s the fun part — with a detailed plan we could create some pretty crazy scenarios for viewers to have to figure out…

Do you know how many permutations and how many endings exist for You vs. Wild?
I lost count after one episode! The planned-disaster scenario reads more like a detective novel!

What scene was the biggest hassle in terms of having to film one option and then go back to the same moment/spot to film the other?
In and out of a frozen lake trying a bunch of different solutions to escape!

You know everyone is just gonna try to kill you, right?
This is what I was worried would happen! I am not sure I like the feeling!”

Per Variety, “Britain’s Prince Harry has announced that he is partnering with Oprah Winfrey on a mental health series for Apple TV+. The prince, who is also known as the Duke of Sussex, announced the partnership Wednesday on his official Instagram account. The show, which will launch on Apple in 2020, is co-created and executive produced by the Duke of Sussex and Winfrey.

“The announcement said the pair had been developing the multi-part documentary series for several months. The as-yet-untitled series was first announced as part of Apple TV+’s upcoming slate at an event last month. It forms part of a multi-year content deal with Winfrey.

“The series will focus on both mental illness and mental wellbeing with the intention to inspire its audience to engage in honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces and how to deal with them.

“A statement from Prince Harry said it was his hope was that the series would be positive, enlightening and inclusive, sharing ‘global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better.’

“‘I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self,’ read the statement. ‘It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.’

“Prince Harry has long campaigned around the issue of mental health in the past, seeking to break the stigma around mental illness. He drew praise in 2017 after speaking candidly about the how the death of his mother, Princess Diana, had affected him. Speaking to journalist Bryony Gordon for a podcast for the U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper in April of that year the prince revealed he had shut down all his emotions ‘for 20 years’ which he said had ‘had a quite serious effect not only on my personal life but also on my work as well. My way of dealing with it was refusing to ever think about my mum because why would that help?’ said Harry. ‘It’s only going to make you sad. It’s not going to bring her back. It was 20 years of not thinking about it and then two years of total chaos.’

Is this even allowed?? How does any network or streaming service top Oprah + a Prince?

Per EW, “[a] fitting subtitle for Game of Thrones could be this warning from Red Priestess Melisandre: ‘Prophecies are dangerous things.’ Just ask Melisandre’s previous chosen one, Stannis. From greensight to visions in the flame, plenty of portents have come and gone on the show, and fans — as desperate for vindication of their various theories as any would-be monarch for the throne — have picked each cryptic message apart. Ahead of Thrones’ eighth and final season, here’s a review of the two biggest prophecies that are still driving the show and its characters:

The Prince That Was Promised

“After the long summer, darkness will fall heavy on the world. Stars will bleed.… The cold breath of winter will freeze the seas.… And the dead shall rise in the north.… A warrior will draw a burning sword from the fire, and that sword shall be Lightbringer.”
—Melisandre

Status: Summer has ended, and the dead have risen, but the identity of the prophesied savior who will wield Lightbringer against the darkness is still open to interpretation, as is the nature of the legendary weapon itself. Melisandre explains that the one who ends the war will be “the prince that was promised,” but Daenerys’ adviser Missandei has pointed out that this phrase, translated from High Valyrian, could mean either “prince” or “princess.” The two frontrunners under this gender-neutral interpretation are Dany and Jon Snow, whom the Lord of Light resurrected. Prophecies in George R.R. Martin’s books include additional information about the conditions surrounding the birth of the prince who was promised, also known as Azor Ahai reborn, but the show has de-emphasized some of the criteria outlined in print.

As for the bleeding stars mentioned in the speech above, they may refer to Dany and the red comet that heralded the birth of her dragons. Or they could refer to Dawn, the fallen-star-forged sword that Arthur Dayne used to protect Jon’s mother, Lyanna Stark, as she gave birth to her Targaryen heir at the Tower of Joy, as seen in Bran’s vision. There’s also a chance that Dawn could be Lightbringer, and some speculate that Jon will find it buried with his mother in the Winterfell crypts.

Gold Will Be Their Shrouds

“You will never wed the prince, you will wed the king.… You will be queen, for a time. Then comes another — younger, more beautiful — to cast you down and take all you hold dear.… The king will have 20 children, and you will have three. Gold will be their crowns, gold their shrouds.”
—Maggy the Frog, to young Cersei Lannister

Status: Much of this blood-magic-infused prophecy has come true. Cersei married King Robert Baratheon instead of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen after the Lannisters sided with the new ruler, and against the Targaryens, during Robert’s Rebellion. The younger, more beautiful queen set to replace Cersei might’ve been Margaery Tyrell, but since her vaporization in the Great Sept of Baelor, it’s more likely that Daenerys will become the queen to cast the ruthless Lannister from power. King Robert had numerous children out of wedlock (the only known survivor on the show being Gendry); Cersei had three doomed, golden-haired royals, Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella, with her brother Jaime. One thing that could impugn this prophecy’s accuracy: if Cersei’s current (alleged?) pregnancy comes to term.

Game of Thrones returns April 14 on HBO.”
